Choosing the right cedar roof contractor

There are a few factors to consider before you choose a cedar roof contractor. While many are professionals, some are not, and they could leave you in liability as far as insurance, not do work on time, or do bad work. In this article, we will examine five things to watch out for when hiring cedar roof contractors.

Very Low Prices

Putting in a cedar roof is a costly endeavour. If someone is offering you a very low price, it is likely that they will not be using high quality materials, nor will they have high quality craftsmanship. As with most things in life, you will get what you pay for.

Lack or References

Cedar roofing requires skill that is acquired over a period of time. Contractors who are unable to supply you with references may be very new to the job or may have never done it before, making it less likely that you will get the quality you deserve. Having references will give you a better idea of the level of work you can expect from a particular contractor, helping you to make the decision of whether or not you want to work with them.

Large Upfront Deposits

You should not be asked for a large deposit up front. This is usually a red flag that your contractor is inexperienced or negligent. A small deposit is reasonable, but the majority of the payment should be rendered after the contract has been completed.

Safety Licenses Fall Arrest Training

The contractor should have a safety license and they should be able to provide you with a copy of this license to see for yourself. They should be prepared for accidents that may occur on the job, such as falling. If they do not have the license or are unprepared for accidents than this is a red flag that you will not be able to have a satisfactory working relationship with them.

Insurance

The contractor must have insurance. If they do not have insurance and they fall or otherwise injure themselves while working on your project, you may end up in court. You do not want to be sued for someone else’s negligence. If they refuse to provide you with proof of their insurance, than you should find another contractor.
